Aitutaki Lagoon
Mitiaro
Often cited as one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world.
Masjid al-Haram
Mecca
The largest mosque in the world and Islam's holiest site, Masjid al-Haram surrounds the Kaaba, a cube-shaped structure draped in black cloth. Millions of pilgrims gather here each year for Hajj and Umrah, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

Odzala-Kokoua National Park Gorilla Trek
Ouesso
One of Africa's premier wildlife experiences — a guided trek through primary Congo Basin rainforest to observe habituated western lowland gorilla families in their natural habitat at close range. Odzala-Kokoua is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Africa, protecting extraordinary populations of gorillas, forest elephants, bongo, and hundreds of bird species in pristine primary rainforest. Accessible from Ouesso by 4WD and boat.

Nioumachoua Islet Diving & Snorkelling
Nioumachoua
The premier scuba diving and snorkelling destination in the Comoros — crystal-clear water around seven uninhabited coral islets with extraordinary marine biodiversity including reef sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, whale sharks, and colourful reef fish ecosystems virtually untouched by commercial fishing. Laka Lodge operates the only certified dive centre in the area.

Green Sea Turtle Night Watch (Itsamia)
Itsamia
One of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife experiences — a silent, guided nighttime walk on Itsamia's dark beaches to witness massive female green sea turtles (up to 180kg) hauling themselves ashore to excavate nests and lay 100+ eggs. Conducted by trained community guides from the Itsamia eco-cooperative using red-light torches only. Available December to February at peak nesting season but turtles are present year-round.

Mohéli Marine Park Safari
Fomboni
A boat safari into the Mohéli Marine Park — the first and most pristine marine protected area in the Comoros, established in 2001. The park encompasses the entire marine zone around Mohéli Island and the seven Nioumachoua islets — home to manta rays, dugongs, humpback whales, reef sharks, sea turtles, and extraordinary coral reef ecosystems virtually untouched by mass tourism.

Cocora Valley & Wax Palms
Pereira
Colombia's most extraordinary natural landscape — a misty green valley dotted with Colombia's national tree, the wax palm, which grows to an extraordinary 60 metres in height — the world's tallest palm. Accessible by jeep from Salento (1 hour from Pereira), the valley offers stunning hikes through cloud forest and open grassland.

Tayrona National Natural Park
Santa Marta
Colombia's most spectacular national park — a UNESCO-level coastal paradise where the dense jungle of the Sierra Nevada cascades directly into wild, palm-fringed Caribbean beaches with extraordinary coral reefs. The beaches of Cabo San Juan, Arrecifes, and Playa Brava are among the most beautiful in South America.

Potala Palace
Lhasa
One of the world's most extraordinary buildings — the 13-storey, 1,000-room UNESCO-listed winter palace of the Dalai Lamas, rising 117 metres above the Red Hill to dominate the Lhasa skyline at 3,750m altitude. Houses thousands of gilded Buddhist statues, sacred murals, and the jewelled tombs of eight Dalai Lamas.

Li River Cruise (Guilin to Yangshuo)
Guilin
One of the world's great river journeys — a 4.5-hour official cruise from Guilin downstream through 83km of the most dramatic karst scenery on Earth: mist-shrouded limestone peaks, bamboo groves, buffalo-dotted rice paddies, and ancient fishing villages. The landscape depicted on the 20-yuan RMB note.

Torres del Paine National Park
Puerto Natales
One of the world's most spectacular wilderness areas — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Chilean Patagonia protecting three massive granite towers (Las Torres), turquoise glacial lakes, ancient glaciers, and sweeping pampas. The W Trek and O Circuit are among the world's greatest multi-day hiking experiences.

Atacama Desert Stargazing Tours
San Pedro de Atacama
San Pedro de Atacama sits in the world's driest desert at 2,400m altitude with virtually no light pollution — producing the clearest, most spectacular night skies on Earth. ALMA Observatory and numerous licensed stargazing operators offer world-class astronomy experiences.

Lakes of Ounianga (UNESCO)
Faya-Largeau
A series of 18 highly unique, interconnected lakes hidden deep inside the hyper-arid Sahara Desert — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary scientific and visual significance. The lakes are fed by ancient fossil groundwater and framed by green palms and red sand dunes, creating a landscape of surreal beauty in the heart of the world's largest desert. The most remote and extraordinary natural wonder in Chad.

Guelta d'Archei
Fada
One of the most dramatic and otherworldly natural sites anywhere on Earth — a deep, vertical-walled sandstone canyon oasis in the Ennedi where thousands of camels gather daily to drink from the permanent water pool. Most remarkably, Guelta d'Archei harbours the last surviving population of Saharan crocodiles — relict reptiles stranded in this isolated water body since the Sahara dried out 5,000 years ago.

Ennedi Plateau (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Fada
A breathtaking sandstone massif in northeastern Chad, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016. Millennia of wind and water erosion have carved the plateau into a spectacular landscape of natural rock arches, soaring spires, hidden canyons, and ancient guelta water pools. The cliffs are covered in extraordinary prehistoric rock art — some of Africa's finest — depicting cattle, horses, and human figures from when the Sahara was a fertile savanna.

Zakouma National Park
Am Timan
One of Africa's most extraordinary conservation success stories and the continent's finest Sahelian savanna wildlife reserve. Zakouma protects the largest elephant herds in West and Central Africa — a population that crashed from 4,000 to under 500 due to Sudanese poaching and has dramatically recovered since African Parks took over management in 2010. The park also harbours lions, leopards, giraffes, and over 370 bird species.

Naghol Land-Diving Ceremony
Pangi
The ancient ritual that inspired the modern sport of bungee jumping — men of Pentecost Island leap from towering wooden platforms (up to 30 metres) with tree vines tied to their ankles to bless the yam harvest. One of the most extraordinary and dramatic cultural spectacles anywhere in the world, performed each April and May.

Mount Yasur Volcano
Isangel
One of the world's most accessible active volcanoes and Vanuatu's most extraordinary natural attraction. Visitors can stand on the crater rim of this continuously erupting stratovolcano and watch molten lava explosions at close range — both by day and, most dramatically, at night when the fireworks are visible for miles. Captain Cook described it in 1774 and it has been erupting ever since.

SS President Coolidge Wreck Dive
Luganville
One of the world's greatest and most accessible wreck dives — a massive 22,000-tonne American luxury liner-turned-troopship that sank in 1942 after hitting two American mines. The wreck lies in easily diveable depths of 20-70 metres and is remarkably intact, with stunning artefacts, guns, jeeps, and even a famous bas-relief sculpture called 'The Lady'.

Angel Falls (Salto Ángel)
Ciudad Guayana
The world's highest uninterrupted waterfall at 979 metres — nearly 20 times the height of Niagara Falls. Plunging from the Auyán-tepui table mountain in Canaima National Park, it was named after American bush pilot Jimmie Angel who crash-landed on the tepui in 1937. Accessible only by small aircraft to Canaima and then by dugout canoe.

Rwanda Gorilla Trekking — Volcanoes NP
Kigali
Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park offers what many consider the world's finest gorilla trekking experience — 10 habituated mountain gorilla families in a compact, well-managed park with outstanding trail infrastructure and world-class lodges. The USD 1,500 permit is the world's most expensive gorilla experience but the quality of conservation, guide training, and habitat management is exceptional. The golden monkey trek (USD 100) is extraordinary value.

Murchison Falls Nile Boat Trip
Gulu
The boat trip from Paraa on the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls is Uganda's single greatest wildlife experience — a slow upstream journey past enormous Nile crocodiles basking on sandbanks, hippo pods surfacing around the boat, elephants drinking at the river edge, and clouds of waterbirds. The falls themselves — where the entire Nile is forced through a 7-metre gorge creating a thunderous cascade — are one of the world's most dramatic natural wonders.

Bwindi Mountain Gorilla Trek
Bwindi
Trekking through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to sit one metre from a mountain gorilla family is the defining wildlife experience of East Africa — and one of the most profound encounters with another species available to humans. Half the world's remaining mountain gorillas (approximately 500) live in Bwindi's ancient montane forest. The permit allows one full hour with the gorilla family after the trek, which ranges from 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the family has moved.

Serengeti & Ngorongoro Safari Circuit
Arusha
Arusha is the gateway to Tanzania's northern safari circuit — one of the world's greatest wildlife destinations. A classic 5-7 day circuit visits Tarangire National Park (elephant herds), Lake Manyara (tree-climbing lions), Serengeti (Great Migration), and Ngorongoro Crater (Big Five in a single caldera). No comparable safari destination exists anywhere on Earth. All reputable operators are based in Arusha.

Kilimanjaro Summit Trek — Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
Kilimanjaro
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro — Africa's highest peak and the world's tallest free-standing mountain — is one of the great adventure experiences on Earth. Uhuru Peak (5,895m) is achievable by fit, non-technical climbers via 6-8 day routes. The mountain's five distinct climate zones (rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert, arctic summit) create an extraordinary journey from tropical equatorial forest to permanent glacier.

Serengeti Great Migration (Year-Round)
Serengeti
The Serengeti hosts the world's greatest wildlife spectacle year-round — 1.5 million wildebeest, 500,000 zebra, and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle in a continuous circular migration following the rains across 30,000 sq km. The drama shifts with the season: calving at Ndutu (Jan-Mar), river crossings at Grumeti (May-Jun), Mara River crossings (Aug-Oct), and the southward return. Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara form one vast ecosystem.

Great Migration River Crossings
Maasai Mara
The Mara River crossings during the Great Migration (July-October) are the most dramatic wildlife spectacle on Earth. Over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra surge across the crocodile-infested Mara River in frenzied, instinct-driven crossings. The scene — thousands of animals leaping into churning water, pursued by enormous Nile crocodiles — is violent, beautiful, and utterly primeval. A life-altering experience.

Haystack Rock
Cannon Beach
This iconic 235-foot sea stack is a protected marine garden teeming with tide pools and puffin nesting sites. It stands as the most recognizable natural monument on the Oregon Coast.

Natural Pool (Piscine Naturelle d'Oro)
Île des Pins
This stunning natural swimming pool is enclosed by dramatic coral rocks and ancient pine trees. The crystalline waters offer world-class snorkeling opportunities teeming with vibrant tropical fish.

Haghpat Monastery
Alaverdi
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Debed River canyon, this monumental monastic complex dates back to the late 10th century. It features a stunning gavit and a detached bell tower that offers panoramic views of the surrounding Lori province.
